Camping at Monte Cristo

Since we didn't make it to Bear Lake this year, we decided to try and find something to do, if even for a weekend.  So we found a time when Papa was off work and Jeff could get a weekend off.  We looked online for a campground and everything was booked.  My dad wanted to go up to Monte Cristo, but online said they only had walk up only sites left.  So I found 2 spots at Rockport that were right on the river and everyone thought it sounded fun.  Right as we decided that, no kidding, breaking news came on that there was a fire there.  We couldn't believe it!  It closed the riverside campground which is where we were supposed to go.  We were so bummed.  So we left early on friday morning to head up to Monte Cristo to get a spot, and my family was going to come up a little later.  When we got up there, it had hardly any campers at all and we found a great spot.  It was big and open with tons of trees.  We got camp set up and soon Chris and Amy came up.  Grandma and Papa were supposed to be behind them shortly, so a couple hours later we all got really worried.  You couldn't really get service up there and Jeff was just leaving to drive down and look for them when they pulled up.  Turns out, Papa was talking about the campgrounds right above pineview, not ACTUAL Monte Cristo.  So they had almost come up the canyon all the way and turned and went back, and finally asked someone and she told them Monte Cristo was all the way at the top.  They finally made it there and the kids were way excited.  Grandma brought crafts, and games, and we had a fun night.
Saturday, the guys went to find the 2 reservoirs that were nearby and then they were going to come back and get us.  They weren't gone too long, and they got back and said one of the reservoirs was dried up and replaced by cows, and the other one they drove all this way on a dirt road only to find a no trespassing sign.  It was a bummer.  So we just hung out around camp all day and the kids got nice and dirty.  I'm ok with that though, because the weather was nice, and it was great to get away.
Sunday we packed up and decided to stop at Causey reservoir on the way down.  That was a bummer too!  It was low and covered in wasps.  We didn't stay.
I was glad we got to have a weekend with my family.  The kids always have so much fun, no matter what we do together.  We look forward to any time we get to spend with them!
